In a unexpected partnership that breaks traditional predictions, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost bonus story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Adventure Disclosed

According to the authorized announcement, "A strange encounter pulls characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where whispers of prohibited rituals and terrifying metamorphoses echo through the shadows." The plot features a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a clandestine cult.

The adventure focuses on "peculiar experiments and a monstrous adversary" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Transformations

The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview finishes with a striking scene showing a character, probably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Rewards and Additional Material

Players who successfully complete the mission will acquire an exclusive katana together with multiple artifacts concealed throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa attire for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps steed

Third Free Story Content

This release also introduces the game's latest free story episode, titled "The Enigma." This playful quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange signature techniques: Naoe debuts a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also features a new environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.

Previous Anime Collaborations

This marks scarcely the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime series. The series previously showcased a 2020 cross-promotional story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that unmistakably referenced the popular series One-Punch Man.
