Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to widen access to music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
