A two-month voyage around the Land Down Under is being halted following the tragic passing of an older woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The vessel departed without her and came back later that day after the ship staff became aware the passenger was not present.

A major search operation discovered her body the following day.

Officials are looking into the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that guests would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Commander" prohibiting any additional guests from getting on the vessel.

The representative said that they would attend the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Events

The ship initially left the Australian port on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the elderly woman's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the journey.

Guests on board - who generally pay large sums of currency to join the expedition - were transported there for a shore visit with the choice of hiking or snorkelling.

Relatives Reaction

The child of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mother".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her parent as an "vigorous elderly person" who was a affiliate of a bushwalking club.

"According to scant details we have been provided, it appears that there was a breakdown of care and basic judgment," she said.

She added that she hoped the inquiry would be able to identify what "the operator should have performed that might have protected Mother's being".

The ship accommodates up to a hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty staff, according to official information. It was specifically designed to access isolated locations of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "small boats" - small boats used to take travelers on day excursions.

Events like this are rare, and cruise ships have protocols to record which passengers are embarking or getting off, according to industry experts.
